Generational Differences in Giving and Communication

GENERATIONAL DIFFERENCES IN GIVING AND COMMUNICATION

(from CCCC article, ‘Passing the Plate During Physical Distancing, 2020)

Today the church is made up of five generations, each with their own typically preferred methods of communicating about money, worship, and generosity. When the methods we use to communicate about money do not work for younger generations, it can be frustrating, just as the reverse is true for other generations.

As you consider electronic giving, we recommend you also reconsider the messages and methods you use to communicate about giving. A helpful book on this topic is, Generational IQ: Christianity Isn’t Dying, Millennials Aren’t the Problem, and the Future is Bright by Hayden Shaw.
