Week 6: Remembering our Recent FMCiC Journey
Senior Director of Church Health & Planting: we have reposted this position, see the posting here. We are asking you pastors and members of the FMCiC, to be the Body, and identify who you think could serve in this position. Pray, then tap that person on the shoulder and say something like, “You came to mind when I prayed about the Church Health & Planting role – have you considered it?”

This is my hope for your church families: I pray that you are speaking to each other about the gifts that you see in each other. How beautiful it would be if you were in the spiritual ecclesial habit of tapping each other on the shoulder and humbly encouraging each other by describing gifts you see in that person.
Just so that we are all on the same page, what are “spiritual gifts”? How do we as church families help each other become aware of our gifts, and develop our gifts?

Campbell’s Bay FM is located in Quebec, and it is an English-speaking congregation. This weekend I was with them. After the service I invited anyone who had a desire to pray, or a particular need, to come forward to pray. It was a beautiful time of calling out to the Lord and asking as His children for healing, strength, wisdom and other miracles. This is my hope this year as I am with you in your local church, to pray together – in fact I look forward to it!
Remembering (part 6)The Board of Administration created “TEAMS” to prayerfully shape and run our national initiatives. In the past our national ministries were led by sub-committees of the BOA. Wonderful Godly people, but not necessarily experts or even practitioners of Church Planting, Leadership, Church Health, Missions, Generosity, etc. So, the BOA asked all national ministries to create TEAMS of experts and practitioners to help shape our departments. More Free Methodists, lay and clergy, from across the nation are now participating and shaping our future. The BOA is able to now focus on discerning vision, policy and manage the budget.
These new TEAMS, which are ministries and not termed positions, include: Leadership Development, Church Health, Church Planting, Intercultural Engagement, and Generosity.
Three other teams have since been added based on task force work.
a)      First, we didn’t have a NATIONAL PRAYER TEAM. In fact, this was one of the first national initiatives that I explored and established with the BOA. There was no task force first for this team – we simply agreed that this needed to happen!

b)      The BOA agreed that we needed to consider our commitment to women in ministry. We created an Engaging Women in Ministry Task Force, which morphed into a standing ongoing ENGAGING WOMEN IN MINISTRY TEAM (because the BOA did not want the task force work to become little more that a position paper).

c)      The other group who I wanted to engage was our retired ministers and families. Again, a task force made a compelling case to become a TEAM, which is the RETIRED MINISTERS TEAM, supporting, and hoping to more fully engage our great retired servants of Christ in our movement.

[PLEASE NOTE:  The FMCiC preference for LSP is for students to attend one of the approved schools on this list. However, if you decide to apply to a non-approved school, you must first send a request to the Credentialing Coordinator to determine whether the committee will approve funding for you to study at a non-approved school. Along with your request, please include a written explanation as to why you are choosing to study at a non-approved institution. It is strongly recommended that you do this before paying tuition, and well in advance of the LSP deadline. The Credentialing Coordinator, along with the LSP committee, will consider each request individually and according to LSP policy.]

The Leadership Scholarship Plan (LSP) provides financial assistance to candidates who are studying to meet the educational requirements for credentialed ministry, or for members of conference pursuing continuing education.

February 15 is the next deadline to apply for LSP for any courses taken during the winter semester of 2023. The 2023 application forms and instructions are now available to download from the link above.  Please use the application forms marked “rev 2023.”

The Special Scholarships provide financial assistance to those who are members of a Free Methodist church pursuing post-secondary education to grow in their Christian faith, to those who are pursuing credentialed ministry, and to members of conference pursuing continuing education.

October 15 is the deadline to apply for the annual Special Scholarships for courses taken during the 2023 calendar year – apply online anytime from the link above.  Special Scholarships are awarded in late November/early December each year.

Ordained and Commissioned Ministers (except retirees) are to annually report hours acquired during each year for Continuing Education Units (CEUs).  Check the link above for information on CEUs, and a list of examples of many different types of life-long learning that can be applied as CEUs.

You can now send a report online anytime you have hours to submit for CEUs.  Here is the link:

Note:  For those who attend the fall Minister’s Conferences or the spring Regional Gatherings, attendance is now taken at these events so 6 hours of CEU credit for each event will automatically be recorded.

For those who took courses and/or did in-depth research and learning about how to make the changes required during the pandemic (ie how to live-stream services), add the number of those hours to your annual CEU report.
