Revival that Looks Like Pentecost | Submitted by Ken Roth

“All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them….They devoted themselves to the apostle’s teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.” (Ac. 2:42)

We have just finished remembering and celebrating all that took place during Holy Week. Thank God for His amazing plan of salvation for us! We are careful to give the attention to these events that they deserve, and rejoice in the fact that we are forgiven, reconciled to God and have a home in Heaven because of those events, but we often forget to celebrate the next great event that is also part of the plan of salvation – Pentecost. That’s when we celebrate the sending of the Third Person of the Trinity to live in us and empower us to live like Jesus! I am so thankful that we don’t have to stay “sinners” – living a life that is not set free from the domination of sin (Rm. 8:2).

The effect that the outpouring of the Holy Spirit had on the early church was that they became devoted to the Word of God, to enjoying close relationships with each other, to having meals together that included celebrating the Lord’s Supper together, and to living like a house of prayer. And this resulted in God powerfully using them to be witnesses for Him. May God revive us to become that kind of church. Let’s open our hearts to the fulness of the Holy Spirit in those 4 dimensions of the Pentecost revival so that we will bring glory to God and souls into the Kingdom too.
