Generosity & Stewardship

Generosity Discipleship

Giving as an act of Worship

For many people, giving is unnatural. We are hardwired for self-preservation. That means hoarding our resources to ensure we have enough. Sacrificial giving is not merely unnatural, it is supernatural. It is the result of God’s grace, His power acting in our lives to accomplish what we could never do with our own strength.

Generous Discipleship involves integrating generosity throughout the culture and rhythms of church life. Talking about money in sermons (like Jesus did). Helping people understand the connection between faith and finance in everyday life. Looking at stewardship as an act of worship and our responsibility as faithful stewards – with everything we have, with everything we do, and everything we are.

Workshops and Seminars

We offer a variety of generosity and financial stewardship workshops that can be presented at your church. To learn more or to schedule a workshop for your congregation, please contact the Director of Generosity.

Poverty Matters

Tearfund Canada has partnered with The Free Methodist Church in Canada for many years, and they have produced a series of short films with a discussion guide to help churches think through their work with those living in material poverty.

Wesley on Giving

Generosity and Stewardship have always been at the heart of the Wesleyan revival. John Wesley considered it an integral part of Christian discipleship. Giving of financial resources was a necessary spiritual discipline of every member of the Wesleyan classes and societies.

This is emphasised in Wesley’s sermon on money in “Gain all you can, save all you can and give all you can.” The purpose of gaining all you can and saving (not wasting) all you can was in order to give all you can; and in this way demonstrate the love of God and our neighbour.
