After two years of limited summer camp options, it’s exciting to learn that most of our Free Methodist camps are back for summer 2022! A complete list of camps can be found on the FMCiC website.
I spoke with Lanna and Zac Abbott, the new Associate Directors of Ministry Development at Arlington Beach Camp and Conference Centre in Saskatchewan about their new roles and the upcoming camp season. Lanna was a high school teacher and career guidance counsellor, and Zac is an experienced outdoorsman, carpenter, and contractor. They both have a passion for youth and camp programming, and they share a love for music, nature, and Jesus. As directors, they oversee daily operations, develop programming for campers and staff, and create fall/winter experiences for the community.
“Both of us have felt that this would be the best job ever! We wear a lot of hats, but between the two of us we have the knowledge and experience,” shares Lanna. “I’m really looking forward to connecting with the staff and volunteers and the ability to live in Christian community for the summer. I volunteered here last summer as a coordinator and I’m excited to continue the connections. I’m so happy to be here.”
Arlington Beach offers camps for students in Kindergarten through Grade 12. They kick off the summer with Family Camp July 10-17. “Camp registration is open. We are excited to welcome students from ages 5 to 18. Family camp is our biggest camp of the summer with over 500 people on site. This year’s Family Camp theme is Homecoming, and Bishop Cliff Fletcher and Padre Andrew Klinger are our guest speakers,” explains Lanna. “Arlington Beach has such a great energy. You can really sense God’s presence here.”
Lanna and Zac are also dreaming up ways to make Arlington Beach a winter destination. “We are coming up with winter recreation activities and having more staff retreats throughout the year to maintain connections.”
