Herbert Arthur McLeod was born Oct. 13, 1923 on his grandfather’s farm in Olden Township, ON. He lived there for 4 years with his parents, and then they moved to his father’s birth place at “Echo Lake”, ON. In the spring of 1940, he and his parents moved to Newburgh, ON., where they rented and farmed for 3 years. At the end of that time, they had saved enough money to buy a farm in that area.

Herb met future wife Ruth at the Newburgh Free Methodist Church not long after he and his parents moved to Newburgh, ON. They were married on June 2, 1943, and he continued to farm with his father. He loved the farm and planned on making a career of it. However, the Lord had a different plan.

In 1947, Herb received a clear call to pastoral ministry. With Ruth’s support, he stepped forward to say “yes” to God’s call to follow him. He completed his pastoral training at Lorne Park College, Port Credit, ON, and was ordained as a minister in the Free Methodist Church in 1950. Herb and Ruth served as pastor in Ontario at Bracebridge, Picton, Ottawa, twice at Sarnia, Cambridge, Goderich, and Thornbury. He retired in 1988, but all who knew him well, knew that in his retirement, he would continue to be a gracious pastor, keenly interested in the work of the Lord, serving faithfully and well wherever asked. Herb “finished the course” at the age of 89 on April 14, 2013 peacefully at Bluewater Health Hospital, Sarnia, ON.

Predeceased by his wife Ruth. Loving father of Grace (Robert) Campbell of Sarnia and Carolyn (Arnold) Copeland of Camrose, AB. Cherished grandfather of Kevin Campbell and Brent (Denise) Campbell. Treasured great-grandfather of Aiden, Kayla, Tyler and Ryan. Dear brother of Marion (Charles) McConnell of Napanee, ON.

A funeral service was held on April 19, 2013, at the Smith Funeral Home, Sarnia, ON. Interment at Lakeview Cemetery, Sarnia, ON.
