Tis the season.
Tis the season for new calendars and new commitments
Tis the season for changing seasons and changing hearts
For stress and anxiety. For storms and chaos.
And then came Jesus.
“Then he [Jesus] got into the boat and his disciples followed him. Suddenly a furious store came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. The disciples went and woke him, saying, ‘Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!’
He replied, ‘You of little faith, why are you so afraid?’ Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm. The men were amazed and asked, ‘What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him” (Matt. 8:23-27, NIV).
In overwhelming winds and waves, the disciples were scared for their lives. In the anxiety of facing death, the disciples called out to Jesus. And while Jesus’ response was not immediately one of comfort, Jesus commands the winds and the waves. Jesus commands the external factors that were completely overwhelming for the disciples. Jesus speaks and the storm surrenders.
The disciples went to Jesus – the disciples called to him and the storm stopped.
In this season of change and transition, I invite you to go to Jesus, call out to him, knowing that he knows the storm you are going through and will be your comfort in the midst of the wind and waves.
