While in Colombia, I connected with Pastor Dennis Leon, who serves in a coastal community in Costa Rica, reaching surfers with the gospel. Sixteen years ago, his church began in the living room of his home with a handful of teenage boys sitting on the floor.
From the beginning, the focus was simple and intentional: build real relationships and walk with people toward Jesus.
“Discipleship starts before conversion,” Dennis shared. “It’s just walking with someone toward Jesus.”
One of those early teenagers, Esteban, has grown up in that community of faith and now serves as the national director of Christian Surfers in Costa Rica—a beautiful example of long-term discipleship bearing fruit.
Pastor Dennis asks us to pray for more workers—people on fire for Jesus and deeply embedded in the surf culture—because the harvest is ready.
Ministry doesn’t always look traditional. Sometimes it begins in a living room. Sometimes it happens on a beach. But wherever it starts, faithful discipleship changes lives.
