Peacefully on April 29, 2015 at the age of 102 Esther, beloved wife of the late Rev. W.J.T Hicks, went home to be with the Lord. Over the years as a pastor’s wife, she left her mark on the lives of many people who lived in the various communities where she and her husband pastored Free Methodist congregations. She held the distinction of Area Evangelist with the Conference.

Bishop Elford recalled sitting beside her in morning prayer meeting at Pine Orchard Family Camp and listening to her open her heart to her Lord in prayer. “Lord,” she prayed, “there are people who are living in the valley of indecision today who need to come to this camp to hear your word being preached. Lord, help them to come. Let your Holy Spirit draw them here.” Those three sentences that he heard her pray more than once told him a lot about her heart for people.

Esther had a wonderful sense of humor. She saw the amusing side of life and laughed easily – especially at her own “one-liners”. One of her classic responses whenever asked how she was doing on a particular day was: “Oh, pretty good. I’m not too pretty but I’m trying to be good!”
She was a remarkable woman who completed her Bachelor of Arts degree at a time in life when most people would not have considered starting – much less finishing.

Esther was predeceased by her husband, W.J. T. Hicks, son William and her grandson Alexander. She is survived by children, Ruth Brackley, Lois Allen, Jim Hicks, Eunice Hamilton, John Hicks, Esther Warren, Joanna McNeil, Julia Lees, Priscilla Newman and their spouses.
Dear Grandmother to 22, Great Grandmother to 33, and Great-Great Grandmother to 6.

We give thanks to God for the many years of our sister’s faithful service.
