In his 97th year, John Mervin peacefully entered his heavenly home on June 29, 2015 to join his dear wife Martha of almost 65 years.

Bishop Elford wrote in his tribute to Mervin, “When I read his personnel records to prepare this tribute, I saw that he took a writer’s course by correspondence. This stood him in good stead all the way into his retirement years when he authored his autobiography entitled: My Life’s Journey.” Bishop Elford continued, “After I read the book, I contacted him to tell him how much I enjoyed the stories of his life – particularly the story of how he came to know Jesus as well as the humorous anecdotes that he included here and there. I always enjoyed my conversations with Mervin. He smiled readily. As a young pastor, I remember observing him during the sessions of Annual Conference. He was a principled person who thought things through for himself … and expressed himself clearly … but always respectfully and with kindness. In his retirement years, Mervin maintained that same gracious demeanor. I always enjoyed my conversations with him – even when we didn’t necessarily agree with one another. We were friends.”

Mervin with Martha at his side faithfully pastored in the communities of Picton, Verona, Peterborough and Marmora before retiring in 1984. Dying as he lived, in his final hours he spoke clearly through his oxygen mask about his desire for all to know the Lord.
Mervin is survived by children Lucille, Christina, Heather and Philip and their spouses. He leaves four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

We are truly grateful for this life fully given to the Lord.
