Developing a Global Partnership with Dan Sheffield and Paul Moriarity

Dan Sheffield (Global Ministries) and Paula Moriarity (ICCM) will partner to share processes and practices for developing a partnership between your local church and an international FM ministry. Case studies and examples from existing partnerships will be used to illustrate.


Websites and the Church with Nathan Colquhoun
(Salon DE, 2:30pm-3:30pm)
What’s the difference between the two hour website we built last general conference using entirely free software and a fifteen thousand dollar website, a two hundred thousand dollar website?  Is it worth it?  We’ll be exploring the use of social media, interactive websites, podcasts, blogs and video online and asking the question: Is it being a good steward of our resources to spend our time and money on the internet?


Lifeplan with Jared Siebert (Salon G, 2:30pm-3:30pm, 3:45pm-4:45pm)
The LifePlan is a new initiative of the Free Methodist Church in Canada to promote church health.  Many churches have tried this process and found it helpful.  This workshop will feature two pastors who have led their churches through the LifePlan and found it helpful.  Come and learn how to get the most out of the process, how to stay on target, and how to prepare for your second time through the process.


Generous Stewardship Workshop
(Quebec, 2:30pm-3:30pm, 3:45pm-4:45pm with French translation)
Generous stewardship is a holistic life issue in the use of our time, skills, experiences, spiritual gifts, relationships – as well as financial resources.  It is at the heart of Christian discipleship and how we express and live out our faith.
In this workshop we will cover the issues that prevent us from living as generous stewards and look at how we can create a culture of generous stewardship in our lives, churches and communities.


How to do a Pastor’s Performance Appraisal with Kim Henderson

Delegates and pastors are encouraged to participate in this workshop to learn the process and reporting for the pastor’s performance appraisal.


Q & A with Bishop Keith (Salon DE, 3:4pm-4:45pm)
You will be given an opportunity to submit written questions on topics that you would like to hear the Bishop talk about.  In this workshop, Bishop Keith will talk about the questions that are submitted and, if there is time, take on spontaneous topics from the group.


Broad Brush Strokes: the Arts as an Avenue to Worship with Jason Johnson

This seminar is really a round-table discussion of ideas, concepts and practices (real or imagined) of how to include and celebrate the all arts in the service and in our church’s overall ministry.  I have some views, you have some views, together we can all get a better view of God.

This session will include a general review of The Free Methodist Church in Canada DC pension plan, with a focus on the SmartPATH education services and tools available to plan members.  This session is suited to all participants in the plan.


Getting Close: Planning for retirement (Salon F, 3:45-4:45pm)
This session will focus on the different sources of income in retirement, and the “retirement road map” you should follow to reach that stage.  This session is best suited to plan members who are 10 to 15 years from retirement.



Taking On Tough Questions Of Rural Church Planting Potential with Bruce Kellar

The workshop will discuss the hard questions about rural church planting and to look at some resources that we have but maybe don’t consider. We will be taking a look at the value of rural-small churches and how we want to encourage the rural setting to be part of our Getting On With It.

This seminar is designed for church leaders responsible for risk management and child and youth protection.  Plan to Protect is a protection manual currently being used in 5,000 churches across Canada and endorsed by the Free Methodist Church of Canada.  During this seminar we will cover an overview of the manual, implementation strategy, 8 tips for success, and 5 overarching principles to demonstrate due diligence.
